Jan-Holger Hennies is a filmmaker, editor and cinematographer working across non-fiction film, video, mixed media projects and audiovisual research.

Recurrent topics in his work are counter-forensics in regard to forced disappearance, especially in Mexico and Latin America; collective political organising; housing politics and urban practices of resistance; the physical, social and imaginary processes of landscape creation.

The outcome of his collaborations has been exhibited at international film festivals and museums including IDFA, DocsMX (“Best Mexican Documentary 2020”), Guanajuato International Film Festival (“Best short documentary 2021”), International Short Film Week Regensburg or the Biennale d’Architecture d’Orléans.

As a lecturer in audiovisual research he currently teaches at the Institute of History and Theory of Architecture and the City (GTAS), TU Braunschweig.

Jan is an MA graduate from the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester (UK), member of the German Documentary Association AG DOK and currently based in Berlin after living and working in Mexico City for several years.
