Jan-Holger Hennies is a documentary filmmaker, cinematographer and editor working in independent cinema and video productions, transmedia projects and artistic research. He is an MA graduate from the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester (UK) and lives between Berlin and Mexico City.
Using audiovisual practices as a means to both do and disseminate research in the form of films, web-platforms and/or exhibitions he has been involved in projects about the forensic self-organisation of people in search for disappeared persons in today’s Mexico; cyberfeminist practices in Mexico and Germany; housing politics, homelessness and urban development in Berlin; among others.
Besides, Jan regularly works for artists and cultural institutions.
The results of these collaborations have been internationally shown and awarded.
Jan has participated in the production of educational web-series about artistic research methods and currently is a freelance lecturer at GTAS, TU Braunschweig.
