Jan-Holger Hennies is a filmmaker, cinematographer and editor working in documentary film and transmedia projects. Recurrent topics in his work are counter-forensics in regard to forced disappearance, especially in Mexico and Latin America; collective political organising; housing politics and urban practices of resistance; the physical, social and imaginary processes of landscape creation. Besides, Jan regularly creates video content for artists, cultural and political organisations.

His work has been exhibited at international film festivals and museums including IDFA, DocsMX (“Best Mexican Documentary 2020”), Guanajuato International Film Festival (“Best short documentary 2021”), International Short Film Week Regensburg or the Biennale d’Architecture d’Orléans.

Jan is an MA graduate from the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester (UK). As a lecturer he currently teaches filmmaking and audiovisual research methods at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture and the City (GTAS), TU Braunschweig.

Jan is a member of the German Documentary Association AG DOK and lives between Berlin and Mexico City.
